What Legal Aid Covers

Through your Legal Aid Grant, we can assist you with:

  • Type of matter – Legal Aid is generally available for family law matters such as parenting, property, and family violence cases

  • Merit test – the case must have a reasonable chance of success

Check Your Eligibility – You can use the Legal Aid NSW website to see if you qualify.

  1. Application – You prepare and lodge your Legal Aid application directly with Legal Aid.

  2. Grant of Aid – Once approved, Legal Aid funds your matter, and we represent you as your lawyer.

  3. Ongoing Support – You receive the same level of professional representation and care as all our clients.

Common Questions About Legal Aid

  • Yes — Wallen Family Law is on the Legal Aid NSW panel and we are actively accepting Legal Aid matters.

  • No. Legal Aid is generally limited to parenting, property, family violence, and some child support or spousal maintenance cases. You will need to speak directly with Legal Aid to find out whether your matter qualifies.

  • Absolutely. We provide every client — whether privately paying or Legal Aid funded — with the same high level of care, expertise, and support.

  • If you’re not eligible, we can discuss flexible payment options, legal funding options or fixed fees for certain services.
